The Tight and Twisty 50K!

I made it official this past weekend. I’m going to construct a trail in Haleyville, and hold an ultramarathon on it in March 2013.  I came up with a goofy name: The Tight and Twisty 50K! The proposed route twists and turns in a relatively small area of land, that’s why it is tight and twisty! The trail is going to be approximately 3ish miles long. It will be at least 3 miles, but most likely it will be longer. That means 10 laps!

New Years Eve Scott, Mom and I hiked across the land so I could get a feel for where they course should be. Here’s a GPS route from the day. It doesn’t show the exact route, but part of it.

Thanks to Endomondo for the GPS tracking data. While this is not the actual route it is close to part of the proposed route. I’m not sure how accurate the elevation is on this, but if it is close the race will have somewhere between 3000 to 5000 feet elevation change. I’ll have a better number once the exact course has been created. Stay tuned for more info. I’ll be in Haleyville working on the trails quite a bit this spring and early summer. If any one would like to help let me know. I know I will need it.

I’m thinking about hosting a small 5K sometime this fall just to help pack the trail as well as get feedback on it.
