I do not understand why my toddler fights sleep so much. I shouldn’t be surprised. I hate sleep with a passion. I stay up late into the night working, reading, or watching TV for no reason other than I feel sleep is a waste of time. I enjoy sleep, but if there is something else that I feel would be more productive; I jump all over that.
Lyla did not go down for her nap easily today. I had to promise a trip to the park that included: swings, climbing, and mom jumping on the numbers (hopscotch). She wound up singing and playing in her room for an hour, and just before I was going to just get her. She fell asleep. It was an epic nap. So much so that at 7:30 Amberly and I decided I needed to go in and change her so diaper wouldn’t leak all over the place.
I got into her room and she was barely awake. She was changed and as I put her back in her sleeping bag. Yes, she chooses to sleep in a sleeping bag. That is a story for another day. She turned to me and said, “Dad, I’m sleepy. I’ll see you tomorrow. I love you.”
She is the sweetest thing.
I love her.
Post Script: Here it is almost 10 and I can hear her in there talking to her stuffed animals. I hope this doesn’t turn into a late night.
