I ran in the Race to the Highlands 5K this weekend. It was a beautiful Saturday morning. My friend Michael came out to push me along. He is an incredible runner. I hated that I held him back, but I’m glad he stuck with me throughout the race. If not for his encouragement, I would have not finished as well as I did. My finish time was somewhere around 33 minutes. I wanted to throw up by the time I got to the finish line so, I’m a bit fuzzy on what the time clock read. Hopefully the race director will post results, and I can share those with you my readers (all 2 of you).
The course was great. There were two wicked hill climbs. I’m not that great at judging distances, but one of them had to be over a quarter mile straight up. I really need to work on my hills. I also found that I need to find a better way to warm up my calves and ankles. I did a good job of prepping everything but those areas. It could be I just need to work on ankle strength.
I’m looking forward into 2012, and I’m finding races so I can knock some of the things off my docket.
I might have found a 5K on December 3rd of this year. It’s the Race to the Heights: Highlands 5K. I’m waiting on a reply to the race director asking if they have a trail option.
February the 18th is the Black Warrior 50K. I don’t think I’ll do the full 50K, but they also have a 20K that is doable. This would overlap an orienteering weekend in Pelham.
The Black Cat 100 is a 100 mile bike race outside Culman, Alabama is March 3rd. I won’t be doing the 100 mile, but they do have a 50 mile bike as well as a 20 mile trail run. If I don’t do the Black Warrior 50K I’ll do something here.
The weekend of April 13th to the 15th is the National Orienteering Championship. I’d like to participate in the Trail-O, Sprint, and Middle distance events.
I’ve got a few other things on the horizon, but these are the immediate events. I’m pumped!
