On the 19th, I ran a Yellow Orienteering course down at the Oak Mountain State park. A yellow course is an advanced beginner course. Below is a shot Amberly captured of me from across one of the lakes. Of course I’m walking. I’m still out of shape, but working on that.

Even though I got turned around on control 5 as well as I had to walk quite a bit; I still came in 2nd! Here are the results: http://vulcanorienteering.org/results/2011/results_111119.php I know on the Docket I wanted to come in first on a yellow course, but I feel 2nd is close enough. I don’t want to spend any more time on a beginner course. In December, I plan on running an orange course. The difficulty and distance really jumps up between yellow and orange.
Lyla and Amberly walked around the lake and played on a play ground while I ran through the woods.
Look closely Lyla is wearing her own compass with accompanying flower power.
These are a blast! There is plenty of challenge if you want to run, or if you just want to stroll and explore the woods it is great way to get off the beaten path. The Vulcan Orienteering Club has meets most 3rd Saturdays from September to May.
